LETS SEE
As a graphic artist and developer, I loved the design of this info-graphic, very stylish and easy on the eyes. What does this numbers says to us is "MASSIVE GROWTH".
Now we have +800,000 apps in the Google Play, and I believe we will see a billion apps in the market around April-May 2013. Moreover, android user numbers increasing incredibly day by day and there are around 4000 different devices that runs Android OS.
2013 FOR ANDROID
2013 will be the year of Tablets and Full HD (1080p) SmartPhones and I think the popularity of Android will reach its top, especially after spring season. Samsung estimated to sell around 100 million GS4, Sony Xperia Z and Htc One looked stunning already, OUYA will be more popular and there is interesting project called Nvidia "Project Shield" for a portable android gaming console. As you can see, 2013 is a critical year for developers, it is a year to maximize for revenues.
IS IT ALL GOOD ? NO, ITS NOT FOR DEVELOPERS
Negative impacts
- Full HD and Tablets are not good for developers, Most of these Full HD smartphones uses Adreno 320 gpu (some of them overclocked) and I have to say A320 not ready for Full HD, I saw the tests and game performances, it is not smooth for 1920x1080p res. Developers have to be more careful about Full HD, Live wallpapers will be real battery suckers and games will heat the phone like an oven this year.
- Bigger Assets! Phones became Full HD, but the internal memory still same (16/32 gb). Our games will be bigger in the size to support Full HD, if you use Assets for Full HD (well, you will have to use to target more installs this year). This is bad, because if you are not a top developer, users hesitate to download a game big in size.
- 1 billion apps to compete and 4000 model to support. Well, this is really bad. If you are develop games, apps and live wallpaper for hobby, its fine, but if you not, then the problems are ahead of you. I know developers who spends months and months for a single game, this is a %90 fail strategy for this year. You should have to 2 road maps this year, 1 for a major project (no time limit), 1 for mini projects (around 4-5 days each) to have stable income. You have to develop a lot this year, if you are single developer.
